I am deeply passionate about medical innovation, especially within biotechnology and healthtech. These areas are pivotal in transforming how we prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases. My enthusiasm is driven by the potential of new technologies and scientific breakthroughs to significantly improve patient care. I am especially interested in how these innovations can contribute to longevity, enhancing not just life expectancy but also the quality of life, ensuring healthier, longer lives for everyone.
Longevity is the new buzzword in the health-conscious community. It is often thought of as simply living longer, though longevity is really about increasing healthspan. Healthspan is the period of life spent in good health, free from the chronic diseases and disabilities commonly associated with aging. Unlike lifespan, which measures the length of life, healthspan focuses on the quality of life. The goal is to extend the years of vibrant, active living by preventing or delaying the onset of age-related health issues. Advances in medical research aim at understanding the underlying mechanisms of aging to develop interventions that can directly impact healthspan, aiming for not just more years of life, but better years. Whilst research in this field is still evolving we already have scientifically backed knowledge to extend our healthspan today.
